Kathleen Comerford

Hi, I'm Kathleen —
clinical nutritionist, science dork, mom, and aspiring gardener.

I became a nutritionist because I’m driven by helping others, and I know firsthand the life-changing power of food.

Giving birth to my second child triggered celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder. Like many people with autoimmune diseases, it took a long time to get diagnosed, and then I had a hard time finding someone to help me get back on the road to wellness. The treatment for celiac is a strict gluten-free diet. I desperately wanted help acclimating to my new lifestyle and finding the tools I needed to heal, but my doctor wasn’t much help, and I didn’t know where else to turn, so I started researching.

I loved researching, learning about nutrition, and experimenting with new foods and recipes so much that it eventually led me to graduate school. I wanted to help others facing similar issues by becoming the practitioner that I couldn’t find when I needed help.

I decided to work with cancer survivors after helping my mom manage the side effects of her cancer treatment. My mom lived with cancer for 15 years; she had so many treatments - radiation, surgeries, and immunotherapy. When the GI side-effects were too much, mom asked if I could help, because she knew that I had both personal and professional experience in the funky-guts department.

When I was helping my mom, I reached out to colleagues who specialized in cancer for advice and referrals, and I heard the same sentiment over and over: they needed more nutritionists and other integrative practitioners in the cancer field. I felt pulled to answer the call and helping cancer survivors and thrivers became my passion.

Wherever you are on your healing path, I would be honored to journey with you.

A few other things about me:

I live with my two sassy kids, amazing husband, and very mouthy pup.

After college, I spent several years working as a senior lab technician doing cellular and molecular cancer biology research at Indiana University Medical School. In a way, I have come full circle back to working with cancer.

Cooking is my creative outlet – good thing I love it because I am doing it all the time!

Thanks to secure video-calls, I see clients from all over the U.S. and internationally (with some limitations based on individual state laws).
